Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a branch of Applied Psychology that aims to enhance people's ability to make wise decisions and achieve their goals. NLP involves recognizing learned patterns of behavior or thinking and then finding creative new ways to make use of them or to update them.
In the field of NLP, or neuro-linguistic programming, the study is devoted to the way we communicate with ourselves inside, which affects the way we communicate with others externally. In particular, it focuses on the conscious and unconscious mental processes that influence how we interpret our everyday life, career and relationship experiences.
The philosophy of NLP states that our perceptions, beliefs, emotions, behaviors, attitudes, and communication styles are linked to the results and outcomes we experience every day. At the practitioner level of neuro-linguistic programming, you will advance from learning basic concepts to utilizing NLP in all aspects of your professional or personal life.
NLP is a way of thinking, one that is characterized by curiosity, a desire to learn, and a respect for other people. The practice involves observing how individuals behave, think, and feel, and how they produce results. NLP comes from three different disciplines, all of which are incorporated and explored throughout this NLP Practitioner training course.
Those who are interested in NLP Practitioner training usually wish to make a positive social impact rather than spend years studying classical psychology. With our NLP Practitioner program, you'll learn a wide range of life principles you can apply in your day-to-day life to enhance productivity, improve relationships, and develop deep self-awareness.

A comprehensive video explaining what Neuro-Linguistic Programming is, what it isn't, how it works, and what each of its components means: 'neuro', 'linguistic', and 'programming', with practical examples to aid your understanding.
In this video, we will evaluate how flexible you are in your thinking, and then explain the difference between 'concrete' authority and 'abstract' authority, then in turn, what this could mean for your ongoing personal growth and professional development.
This video explores the foundations of NLP, including the neurological processes of language, experience, personal development, coaching, and achieving goals. NLP is based on four pillars: communication skills, sensory awareness, outcome-driven thinking, and behavioral versatility. We will explore how these pillars can be applied within NLP practice.
In this video, we discuss the most well-known and fundamental doctrines of NLP: the 'Present State to Desired State' model. This model mounts on the idea of outcome led thinking. We will discuss how to use this model to create a meaningful vision for our future which sets a plotted course for our ongoing personal growth and improvement.
Here we'll look at the different ways we can impact the world. Self-help oriented training courses often aim to make people feel better about themselves on an emotional level. Through driving our focus away from ourselves (how we feel) and onto other people, when life is no longer only based on ourselves, life becomes more fulfilling.
Our perception is not reality; it is merely our perception. The first time this expression was used was in 1931 by Alfred Korzybski. In this video, we will examine why it is important for people to know that their understanding of things, "the map", may not be an accurate representation of reality within itself.
Why is it important to understand that the map is not the territory when it comes to personal development and growth? In this video, Kain explains that 'our perception is not our reality' through a practical example involving his wife, Karen.
In this video, Kain provides a non-personal evaluation of Neuro-Linguistic Programming by showcasing some of the feedback it has received over the years from diverse individuals and organizations. 'Lovers' and 'haters' of NLP each have their own perspectives. Here, he explains why these viewpoints even exist.
We often feel vulnerable or exposed when we reflect on ourselves, so it can be a challenging experience. During this video, we discuss a series of self-reflection questions that will challenge your perspective and really get you thinking.
The NLP presuppositions are a simple, straight-forward set of assumptions that one can incorporate into their lives, whether individually or as a professional serving a client. This video explores the presuppositions of NLP. These are assumptions or attitudes we can accept as accurate and are useful to hold onto. This video is part 1 of 2.

What do you think about truth existing outside of your experience? Prepare to be challenged as Kain challenges you with seven questions to evaluate your neuro-logical flexibility in this fascinating video-based discussion.
Cognitive biases occur as a result of an error in thinking people make while processing and interpreting information. They use it as a criterion for making decisions. The video-based discussion explains several cognitive biases described by one of the great American linguists, scholars, and cognitive scientists, Noam Chomsky.
This video examines the history of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. NLP has a history dating back to the 1970s. As a result of the "behavioural modeling" research conducted by Frank Pucelik, John Grinder, and Richard Bandler, they studied three exceptional therapists - Virginia Satir, Fritz Perls, and Milton H Erickson.
This video explores Benjamin Bloom's taxonomy, a model for fostering critical thinking. Bloom's Taxonomy, or Bloom's Hierarchy, is a ranking of cognitive skills that can, among countless other applications, assist teachers in teaching and students with learning.
We summarize section 1 by exploring Neuro-Linguistic Programming as a means of personal development. The relevance of NLP lies in its ability to help us develop effective interpersonal skills. Furthermore, NLP helps us develop our logical, emotional and intuitive intelligence, all of which are essential for surviving and prospering in today's world.
When one is in a Wise Mind, a person engages in a wise, rational state in their day-to-day activities. It is the calm, optimal way of acting and thinking, which is flexible, adaptive, and holistic. As a result of this mental state, resolve and confidence flow. Here Kain discusses the concept of wisdom and the three components of human intelligence.
In this video, Kain shares a visualization application to help us identify how the focus of our attention influences the health of our emotional state in any given moment. Many people don't have a meaningful vision for their future, and so instead, they focus on the past. He suggests where meaningful future vision can come from.
In this video, Kain and Karen discuss what lies at the heart of human wisdom. Karen talks about an early life experience which powerfully influenced her, and synchronically they explore what she discovered during the experience and how this has assisted her in cultivating a meaningful future life vision.
Limiting beliefs are those that restrain us in some way. We often attach limiting beliefs to ourselves and our identity. "Are we born with our beliefs, attitudes, personalities, and preferences, or do we learn them as we grow?" Kain goes on to describe the various agents of socialization that influence our thought processes. This video is part 1 of 2.

Kain goes on to describe the various agents of socialization that influence our thought processes. This video is part 2 of 2.
Our frame of reference determines how we view our lives, and this will affect our choices. In short, a frame of reference is the lens through which someone understands the world and his surroundings. The norms we've learned through socialization are what we regard as normal (our frame of reference). In this video, Kain explains these ideas more in-depth.
By altering the meaning of a situation, a person, or a relationship, reframing helps create a new perspective. Reframing is based on the idea that the view taken by a person depends on the framework within which it is viewed. Virginia Satir has been integral to the field of NLP for decades and this video reviews some of her contributions in greater depth.
The term Cognitive Flexibility describes our ability to switch between contemplating two different concepts (or multiple concepts) at the same time when faced with new perspectives. In this video, we will explore Cognitive Flexibility and how we can expand our perspective by spending time with people who are different from us.
Can You Pass the Visual Perception Test?
The human eye can often be tricked by illusions into seeing things that aren't actually there.
To communicate effectively, it is important that we have an understanding of other people’s models of the world. All people have different ways of experiencing the world (perception, different beliefs, values, filters, etc.). By understanding and respecting these differences instead of judging, better communication will occur.
Test your own perception with these 12 challenging questions.
An NLP practitioner can use cognitive reframing to help people explore situations from a slightly different perspective. Kain and Karen share their insights on the process of challenging situations or thoughts and changing them; they give practical and easy to understand examples of how they have applied this process in their own lives.
The reframing process involves seeing the same problem from a different perspective. The reframing technique is used in psychology for dealing with emotions and in critical thinking for finding new solutions. In this video, we discuss Virginia Satir's reframing process that helps people shift from negative to positive thinking.
Get ready to sit back, observe and take relevant notes as Kain demonstrates how to apply the Virginia Satir Reframing Framework with Karen - prepare to practice what you observe with other people right away after watching this video.
Identity is who we are by character; personality is how we choose to behave. The only way to live a consistent life is to identify with something constant. As he discusses H. Eysenck's personality model, Kain shows how we can change our own personalities as we get older and more mature; as a result, we become more stable and consistent with other people.
We are intelligent in different ways; there are infinite ways to be intelligent. Asking ourselves "How am I intelligent?" is a better question than "Am I intelligent?" We can adopt a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. In this video, we explore how a fixed mindset leaves little room for growth. Growth-oriented people tend to embrace new challenges and ideas more readily.
In terms of discipline, taking time to self-reflect and contemplate the aspects of our lives where we could grow would be one of the most important things we could do to improve ourselves as people. Here are a few questions that will help you on your way.
In the mind, people often exaggerate things. Everybody has perceived limits; the things they think they can't do. Those who do not step outside their comfort zones will never experience the fulfillment that comes with personal growth. By stepping out of our comfort zone we can achieve far more, and this lecture concludes the second section of the course.
A person's ability to recognize themselves and how they do (or do not) conform to their personal standards is called self-awareness. Our self-awareness enables us to assess ourselves objectively, manage our emotions, align our behavior with our values, and discern how we are perceived or interpreted by others. Welcome to section 3 of the NLP Practitioner.
In this video, we explore the Johari window, a psychological tool developed by Joseph Luft and Harry Ingham in 1955. We can use the Johari window to better understand ourselves and gain new perspectives. It's a great model to use because of its simplicity and also because it can be applied in a variety of circumstances and situations.
We will explore Erik Erikson's eight stages of human development in this video - a challenging psychological model that helps us to recognize where people are at on their growth and development journey. One of Erikson's most influential theories of development, was inspired by Freud, but focused more on psychosocial improvement.
What level of crisis we experience in life will be determined by the perceived distance between where we are and where we want to be. To evaluate our growth as individuals, Kain outlines five self-reflection questions we can ask ourselves.
This video explores the difference between happiness and fulfilment and how we can develop a meaningful vision for our lives. A five-stage plan for lasting change is then described. The model provides a framework for our personal growth and development.
This video presents a book by Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist Viktor Frankl, who was a Holocaust survivor. The author interprets his experiences in a Nazi concentration camp in a meaningful way. What we think about our past experiences significantly affects how we live the rest of our lives.
The art and science of asking questions is the source of all knowledge." - Thomas Berger. To discover our passions and purposes in life, we need to set aside time and create space for some challenging reflection. In this video, Kain highlights the '50 questions for discovering your passion and purpose in life' resource available in the additional materials section.
It can sometimes seem as if there is never enough time to solve all the problems we face each day. We will determine the length of time that problems and tensions remain in our lives by how we approach issues and manage tensions. The purpose of this video is to explore Bandler's four approaches to addressing problems and the effectiveness of each.
Motivation is what turns good ideas into concrete actions. A positive undertone will elicit warm feelings when we set a goal or say something. Furthermore, a negative connotation will result in someone feeling unpleasant very quickly. A Mind can be a great ally or a great enemy. Using positive language, we can positively influence ourselves and others.
The drama triangle (Stephen Karpman in 1961) describes how people present themselves as victims, perpetrators, or rescuers due to their roles in a drama. In this video, we explore the 'drama triangle' and how it creates unhealthy relationship dynamics, then, the 'empowerment' dynamic of both models and makes comparisons between them. Part 1 of 2.

It is much easier to reach your goals when you state them positively. By using positive words, you can focus on what you want, and what you can achieve. It creates a positive atmosphere rather than a feeling of deprivation and discontent. We make progress in life when we strive towards a lasting legacy and reflect upon our ambitions and goals.
Any long-term goal is an end goal in any specific area of your life that you want to achieve. The best plans are often flexible due to societal and technological changes. Without a long term vision, we will not have anything to strive for in the different areas of our lives. Our long-term vision will help us determine what our medium and short-term goals should be.
Well-formed results are results one hopes to achieve, meeting certain criteria to avoid unintended costs or issues, as well as resistance to reaching the goal caused by internal conflicts. A positively framed goal must be the basis of all NLP work with others. We will examine the NLP process here in order to assist others in formulating well-formed outcomes.
Focusing on outcomes rather than goals greatly improves your chances of success. Our minds often picture real and attainable goals when we hear the word "outcome.". Often, the concept of a "goal" can seem out of reach, and you may subconsciously view it as unattainable. Kain will demonstrate how to establish a well-formed outcome in this video.
Future Pace is the process of consciously planning a future event so that it will take place in the expected manner. With future pacing, we evaluate the actions we are taking today based on what we see ourselves doing in the future. As we discuss in this video, we will be able to use future pacing in order to question the impact of interventions that affect change.
Watch this video and take notes as Kain leads a demonstration of future pacing with Karen. Get ready to put into practice what you see with others immediately!
Lazarus Technique was created by Prof. Arnold A. Lazarus, a pioneering figure within Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. The method is a very effective way to determine the source of a person's problems. The Lazarus Technique asks the individual to describe their problem using just one word. In this video, Kain explains how to use this simple method with others.
Take notes as Kain demonstrates how to carry out the Lazarus technique on Karen in this video and get ready to apply what you observe to another person right away!
An NLP coach will support clients to modify restricting self-beliefs and migrate out of their comfort zones. Breaking limitations and taking chances helps to develop a fuller, more content and satisfying life.
In this video, Kain opens up section four of the course by reviewing a model for positively framed NLP coaching and shares insights about how we can recognize if other people are ready to grow or not.
NLP Practitioner Certification Course (Beginner to Advanced)
In this video, Kain unpacks the four stages of the NLP Coaching Model: Stage 1) Preparing for Coaching; Stage 2) The Negotiation Stage; Stage 3) Enabling & Accountability; Stage 4) Closure & Relationship End. With this powerful coaching model, results are amplified.
Would you like to develop your influencing abilities? In order to influence people positively, we need to know what motivates their habits, actions, attitudes and day-to-day behaviors. Influence is the ability to affect someone or something significantly. The purpose of this video is to explore how this could be achieved.
Attending behavior has four dimensions: three non-verbal and one verbal. In addition to eye contact, verbal tracking, and vocalizing, body language is also taken into consideration. Practicing attentiveness can help quiet people speak out instead of us doing all the talking. In this video, Kain demonstrates what it means to conversationally ‘attend’ a person.
G. Egan's skilled helper provides counsellors, psychotherapists and even hypnotherapists with a structured and solution-focused approach for helping people. As Kain explains in the video, Gerard Egan's Skilled Helper Model is a three-stage model we can use to help a person deal with a problem or tension in their life.
Get ready to pay close attention, take notes, and take notes as Kain demonstrates how to apply G. Egan's skilled helper model - prepare to apply what you see with others right away!
We sometimes feel overwhelmed when we try to address all of our problems at once. Life balance resources include 12 areas that can serve as a framework for coaching sessions. In our role as NLP practitioners, we should be able to understand our clients' goals.
A healthy life balance is essential to a fulfilling and pleasant life, as well as ensuring your ongoing growth as an individual. Mental tranquility and general well-being are safeguarded. The video offers a number of questions that we (and other people) can ask to help us enhance our sense of responsibility for accurate information in the world around us.
During this video, sit back, observe, and take notes as Kain demonstrates how to ask truth-centered questions with Karen - then, practice what you observe with others right away!
It is impossible to grow by concentrating on what you don't want in life. By focusing on what we do want (framed in the positive), we become naturally more 'solution' focused and creative. In this video, Kain introduces 10 innovative solution-focused questions we can use with others in order to invoke rigorous thinking and create solutions.
NLP States relate to our internal emotional condition. Kain explains the NLP concept of "state". In NLP, 'state' is our way of being in the present moment, our thoughts, and our feelings. Our physiology, reasoning, and emotions determine our state. The whole is greater than the parts. A person's day-to-day 'state' is the most immediate element of their life.
Neuro-linguistic programming has hypothesized that how information is processed by the brain is through representational systems (also known as sensory modalities). As Kain explains in this video, we can cultivate our wise minds by contemplating the various aspects of life from a more sophisticated and balanced standpoint.
Introspection is the process of examining one's thoughts and feelings. In psychology, introspection is based solely on observing one's mental state. A humble introspection can effectively resolve (or manage) most fundamental problems and tensions. Self-awareness, emotional regulation, and growth are all dependent on introspection.
Kain uses the terms 'positive therapeutic' and 'negative therapeutic' in this video to describe how NLP practitioners typically provide support to others. People who are emotionally sensitive usually benefit more from a negative therapeutic approach, while those who are rationally inclined might benefit more from a positive therapeutic approach.
Interactions with the environment and the capacity to fulfill roles in situations such as job, social activities, and family or partner relationships are aspects of social functioning. Kain explains the NLP EQ-i Model for Emotional and Social Functioning in this video, which describes our emotional maturity journey and how it influences our interactions with others.
The allegory of the cave, or Plato's Cave, was presented by the Greek philosopher Plato in his work Republic (514a–520a) to compare "the effect of education and the lack of it on our human nature". In this video, Kain parts the story of Plato's cave and offers a few practical insights into how we perceive things, is seldom how things are.
"Personal Growth" refers to every aspect of our lives when viewed as a whole. In this video, Kain highlights three distinct areas in which we can develop in life, which allows us a higher degree of control over our emotional state, and the resulting actions that we take.
L. Kohlberg (1927-1987) identified three levels of moral reasoning: pre-conventional, traditional and post-conventional. Each level corresponds to a stage of moral development that becomes increasingly complex. We will discuss how moral development affects people's freedom to act on unchecked desires, instead of contemplating what is right for society.
In this video, we explore the internal state loop and the principles behind the human experience, which details the cycle that we go through to decipher our life experiences. He highlights where our feelings come from and the distinction between 'reacting' emotionally to the situations we face or responding maturely through active self-regulation.
In this video, we introduce a practical application that you can use to incorporate some of the concepts discussed throughout this section into the circumstances of your daily lives.
Kain and Karen have a conversation about state, in which they share their own experiences of self-regulation, as well as how this has benefited them and their marriage relationship.
Living in the moment isn't as easy as it sounds. There are some people who enter a situation without fear of how it will turn out. Others strive not to dwell on the past. Many people are living in the past when they should be living in the present. Our peace can be at risk if we do this. In this video, Kain explains how we can be present more effectively.
Since NLP was conceptualized, some trainers have equated the swish pattern with magic, saying that this mystical technique can automatically transform people's emotions. Sadly, this idea is utter nonsense (and has always been). Introducing the STOPP pattern, Kain's reply to the traditional NLP swish pattern. You caught it here first!
Self-regulation involves observing and managing our energy states, emotions, perceptions, and behavior to produce positive results like well-being, loyalty, and learning. Kain and Karen talk about self-regulation in this video, sharing experiences from the past in which they were unaware of themselves and some of the consequences of not self-regulating.
In this video, we introduce Fraser McKenzie (born 1988), professional rugby union player, who plays for Edinburgh in the Pro14. He plays at lock or blindside flanker and is a former Scotland captain. Fraser and Kain discuss state management in this video. Fraser describes his own experience in a professional sports setting of how he accomplishes this.
Unless we create space and take a step back in our interactions (when we would naturally be inclined to react emotionally), we won't be able to identify what we're thinking. Learning how to analyze our thinking is the key to wise reasoning. In this video, Kain presents eight questions we can ask ourselves to generate wise and established reasoning skills.
With this video, Kain concludes this section of the course by outlining nine self-reflection questions we can ask ourselves to begin reprogramming our thinking patterns and make profound self-improvements.
As a leading figure in the development of communications family therapy, Virginia Satir was a major influence on the founders of NLP. In this video, Kain explains some of the foundational assumptions that Virginia Satir introduced into the field - focusing on four categories of people who are responsible for family conflict.
The ability to level with someone is valuable in situations where you want to disclose, convey information, or solve problems. Satir referred to leveling as 'humanizing'. V. Satir's 'leveller' response is presented and explored in this video, along with ways in which we can understand and incorporate these attributes in our own lives.
This video explains Satir's core philosophies. All people possess the potential for growth and the ability to continue with education throughout their lives. Satir emphasized the need to find one's 'inner self' and to inspire change at the core of one's being. Even when external changes are limited, internal changes are always possible.
The objective of this video is to examine Fritz Pearls' critical assumptions and determine if we're using them effectively in our lives and how we might adjust our current attitudes. The main goal of gestalt therapy is to encourage the user to develop a greater sense of consciousness of their surroundings by integrating all of their senses and behaviors.
When Bandler and Grinder first conceptualized NLP, Fritz Perls was another of the therapists they studied. It was Perl's underlying assumption that the body and its processes were somehow superior to the mind. Gestalt Therapy focuses on the relationship one has with their external experiences. In this video, Kain discusses the critical ideas of Gestalt Therapy.
Humanistic Psychology offers a respectful understanding of people and a range of effective communication techniques. In the video, Kain discusses many of the fundamental ideas that have emerged from the school of Humanistic Psychology.
Hypnotherapist Milton H Erickson is regarded as the best of his time. He used trance and cleverly constructed sentences full of vague meanings to help his clients find solutions to their problems. In addition to his ability to read non-verbal behavior (sensory acuity), Erickson's belief in human potential appears in the list of NLP Presuppositions.
Erickson language patterns inspire people to move away from specific details and engage in higher levels of thinking and deeper states of mind. This video explains what it means to be artfully vague and how to remove specifics from everyday language use. Language patterns are powerful tools we can use to positively impact people in more profound ways.
